John Slater Art

Installation art based in the community

Junk, everyday objects, old stuff, coal, thread, chalk, model ships, poems, archival information, collected and organised in a meaningful way to create new narratives, co-produced with community involvement.

The Art of History

A form of installation art about local history and landscape, which uses found objects, texts, film, recycled materials and anything else which has relevant meaning as itself as well as in how it is shaped and decorated. The artwork will incorporate its surroundings as part of its meaning, whether alongside artefacts in a museum, in the landscape or in the community. The artist, as facilitator, will offer others a role in its making.

Timber, Coal, Iron

An installation about the industrial history of the Forest of Dean, focused on Darkhill Ironworks.

The Poetry Salmon

The poetry salmon project involves members of the community writing haikus from deconstructed river poems by local writers. The haikus will be stuck onto the salmon, which will be displayed swimming through a submerged forest, in a sea of plastic.
